Playing Hardball
The US has exercised it's right to counter an expulsion of one of their embassy personnel in Venezuela by expelling Venezuela's second ranked embassy diplomat in residence here. There is no doubt that this was a purely retaliatory act by Washington, but serves to illustrate the consequences of diplomatically imprudent acts of the flamboyant Chavez of Venezuela. The US has had more than their share of diplomatic incidents with Venezuela while trying to improve the situation of our borders which Venezuela believes should not be closed, and Venezuela's cozy relationship with Iran. How Chavez will react to the expulsion of his diplomat remains to be seen.
The bottom line in this story is that the US is ready to play hardball when it concerns their policies. The expulsion of one diplomat is only the beginning to a lot more serious ball playing. It appears that the US is prepared for any curve ball that these "southpaws" will throw at us.
